PortMasters *always* negotiate MTU when the client requests it.  However,
this only applies to PAP/CHAP logins.  If you're using a scripted login,
then you're bypassing LCP where MTU is negotiated, so the PortMaster falls
back to whatever its default is (576 is common with SLIP).

Make sure you're using PAP or CHAP, and not searching for "ogin:" and
"ssword:" or similar strings in your chat script.  You should be using a
pap-secrets or chap-secrets file instead.

Otherwise, I would check the debugging output from pppd to make sure
you're really negotiating MTU.  Your ISP can also confirm this on their
end.
