Don't sweat it, you'll get it to work eventually. If there's one thing I've
learned about free *NIXes over the past two or so years, it's to try every
possible installation path when I begin messing with a new (new to me, old
to everyone else ;-) piece of equipment. I've rarely been able to get a
unfamiliar distribution to install on equipment I'm not entirely familiar
with.

It would be a good idea to pick one of those two distributions and wear out
all of your options before moving on to the next distribution. And if that
fails, you have more options: SuSE (sorry, no ISOs for download) and
Mandrake PPC Cooker (development distribution, some things may be broken).
Stew Benedict, the main man behind Mandrake PPC development, has a 7600
(among other Macs). So if I were you, I'd try every possible installation
option on Mandrake first, and check out the archives on the Mandrake PPC
lists for info about 7600s. When all else fails, get the development
version, jump on the PPC Cooker list, and interact with Stew (maybe you
should just contact him directly and compare notes, since you'll end up
giving Mandrake some free publicity in the end). And search those Mandrake
list archives while you're waiting for a response!

Cheers,
Dan Willson

I have 160 Mb RAM on a 2 Gb HD. 150 Mb of that 2 Gb is used for OS8. So
about
1,85 Gb is available for Linux.

With Mandrake also recommended installation failed, I observed the same
crash.
What kind of HD do you use ? I have an old Compaq PC SCSI (Seage Barracuda?)
drive. But the installation also failed on the SCSI disk that was already in
the machine (an IBM 1 Gb drive).
