Had problem with the mandrake install myself.

Got around it by doing this-
Manual config: copy and rename whichever config suits you in the bootx
settings folder to "BootX Settings" and move it to your prefs folder.
Check options by running the bootx app, you should find the fields
filled out, now check "options" in the bootX app and choose the install
ram disk, "all.gz", this should get the installer going. I used the
mesh.o driver for scsi access on 7300 rather the other one, mac53c94.
Make sure the disk is formatted as unallocated in apples drive setup, it
wont be seen on the desktop and drive setup will claim there's an error
validating it. That might be for YDL

By renaming one of the files in the BootX settings folder and putting it
in prefs I made sure the arguments where passed to the kernel.
I like Mandrake, sadly a weird keymap problem in init5 put me off using
it on the mac. Had more success with YDL but not enough for it to hold
its place on the hdd, lack of room. :)

Hope something there helps
