Being a collector of early(er) macs, (eg: Colour Classic, SE) I have a large network going.
I was reading on the internet about Mac Plus web servers and I want to do the same, I don't have a Mac Plus I intend to use the Colour Classic as it has Ethernet.
BUT... I have no idea how....ok, well I have a vague idea.
Now this is my situation.
My ADSL internet connection comes into the house through the 'Alcatel Speedtouch USB' ADSL modem. (Please note it HAS to plug into a computer because it is USB ONLY and it connects to the internet via PPP)
Where it goes into the iMac (10.2.6) then the iMac is connected to a hub that all the other computers are connected to. (Mac OS 9.2.1 / 8.1 / *7.6.1* WinXP Home) *Colour Classic*
The other computers are set to 'DHCP'.
What I want is to set up the Colour Classic as a web server (I believe I need MacHTTP to do that) that goes through the iMac. (Colour Classic is broadcasting through iMac to internet)
This is where I become very stuck.
I was reading on www.no-ip.com that I need to use 'Port Forwarding'. Is this where the address is: http://81.132.yyy.yyy:xxxx ? (where 81.132.yyy.yyy is the iMac IP (assigned by PPP) and xxxx is the port number of the Colour Classic)
What do I have to do? Where do I have to do it? How do I do it?
Would I be right in thinking that port numbers are like 'sub-IP addresses"?
As saying 'ok, I need to go to street 81.132.yyy.yyy, once there I need to go to house xxxx road?
I would also like to know, if what I am thinking is right, can I set up all my ethernet macs up as web servers and have them all on different port numbers? - Different house numbers.
Does that make any sense to anyone?
thanks, Dan
