So, there you have me :-)
Faith though, seems to have something else in store for me. I have found my self, al of a sudden, in a chair labeled "co-superadmin" on a combined webserver/internet gateway for the largest wi-fi community in Europe (500+ users as of now, end scenario some 16.000 users).
The other superadmin is a programmer/nerd/linux enthusiast with some basic webserver skills, who happily dives in and out of little black boxes cowered with scribble. I've streched myself as far as using MacSFTP and login as root, and have succeeded (more than once :-)) in installing cgi stuff and such.
We're doing fairly well I guess, without too many screw ups, but as users increase, the screw ups are not very welcome. The gateway and webserver will eventually be split into 2 seperate systems, but as of now, if I screw up the webserver, I also screw up internet connection for all the users. Not popular...!
Bottom line, I need a safe test environment!
The server is running Debian, so that's what I'd like the Mac to do too. I've been to the debianppc website, and thus know that it's possible. And that's about it.
I'd rather not have to deal with pc hardware, and I can probably get my hands on several older pci Macs for next to nothing. Mainly in the 85xx-96xx range. Will it be not only possible, but also bearable (I don't find MacOSX on beige Gs bearable mind you) to run Debian on such old Macs?
And if not, what should I then look for instead?
