Is the hard drive partitioned with pdisk?
What distro?
I always install from a bootable CD-ROM, why floppies?

it is partitioned with standard linux fdisk, at partitionig it didn't 
spit out any error.
i try to install debian.
the system i have doesn't seem to boot from cd.
