i no longer have any kind of macos on the hdd
To the best of my knowledge any worth while distro requires a macos to contain bootx to boot either a install kernel or some other before entering linux on oldworld macs. I guess its the same for floppy versions?
The best tool I've found for this is mdlinux 2000 or RC4 as its set out to boot from the cd. As these are apple sponsored products the cd can contain a macos and bootx which I believe is where other distro s must fall back to only supplying bootx and a requirement of one small mac partition to boot to linux from.
As an example you can make a 10mb partition and copy the system folder from a macos disk-tools floppy. To this you add the bootx extension and app, also the required linux kernels, these being the main reason for needing 10 or more mb's. From there you can set bootx to boot linux by default and so never need to see the mac desktop again. You definately dont need a part or full macos partition if space is a factor.
MDLinux and disktools floppy images are available on the net, if your stuck with only a pc I can send you 2 or 3 images you can convert on the pc or linux/bsd and then boot the mac with a long with bootx and stuffit lite and the standard disktools partition tools which should get you going and able to use a cd to install whichever cd distro you have.
Please check the readme or installation notes on either the media you have or the distro's website and make sure its for oldworld machines (usually somewhere down the bottom now) as new-world macs require a different approach.
The linux flavors names you have would also be helpful as the install for each varies.
Good luck
