I would like to update the API so that you can specify the column types in your controller much in the same way as Package->untaint is used. I am working on re-engineering the form handling so that this would be supported (amongst dozens of other accumulated fixes for underlying modules that are used in common Maypole examples or out of the box). So far discussion of this kind of thing has been kept in the devel list but it would be good to get some feedback on this from the user-base.
