Copying from the soundcard to MD and then to another MD, you will be allowed
only a first-generation digital copy of whatever you obtain from your
soundcard. After that, any copies of that first MD (using 2 MD recorders)
will not be possible digitally unless you use an SCMS stripper. Your other
option would be to have 2 MD recorders connected such that one is playing
back through the soundcard, and the other recording from the soundcard. That
way, your SCMS has been stripped in that scenario as well.

Subject: MD: SP-DIF Category Codes, SB-Live and SCMS treatment

Hi everyone!

Does anyone have a list of SP-DIF source-category codes and reliable
information on treatment of the various categories (other than the known CD,
DCC, MiniDisc and DAT sources) by SCMS.

Also, how is the digital signal for an SB-Live card treated by the SCMS
subsystem in a digital recorder, when a recording is made from a source such
as a RealAudio broadcast, a MIDI file or sound that was written to hard disk
for "polishing up" using a sound-editor? Are the recordings declared
"penultimate" or "final"?
