When in doubt, make sure SOMETHING is covering the hole.  you don't want
dust getting into your optics.  It's not going to be as bad as if it got
inside the MD player itself, but it could still cause problems when recording
if it got clogged.  If you've got lil kids around, you may want to tape over
the caps, or try glue/epoxy a small makeshift tether to them and the unit
itself, so they can be removed from their socket, but won't get lost.

This will keep the youngsters from trying to swallow them, and should keep
them from getting lost.
