Of course not.
MiniDisc employs compression by perceptual encoding - that is:
1-  the stuff you record on the MiniDisc is compressed and
2-  the bits that are 'lost' during compression are the bits that the
encoder in the MiniDisc deck deems 'not noticeable to the human ear'
(that's the 'perceptual' part of the 'perceptual encoding' term).

The fact that the waveforms do look different in cool edit is merely
testiment to the fact that the human ear is not perfect and that the
minidisc perceptual encoder is quite good.  Well, assuming that the send and
return wav files SOUND identical, anyway.  Which is, after all, the whole
point.
