Those last-minute tweaks are always my downfall. Thanks to Fabien and
Olivier for finding bugs (already) on the Mac version. I've fixed the
immediate problems and posted a new version. This new one also builds
Universal binaries for both static and dynamic libraries on the Mac.
I've only tested the Makefile.osx and programs on an Intel mac. -Roger
