Dear Leslie:
First, I can't believe that in this economy your board is asking to do that. I wish
as a ratepayer I am in your water district. Anyway, we don't have 36 hour week, but
do have 9/80 where each employee get Friday or Monday off after working extra hour
rest of the working days. We manage to keep our offices open 8-5 by altering the days
off among staff. I know City of Tracy works on a 4/10 schedule (I think) where the
entire city hall is closed on Fridays. You may want to check with their Finance
staff. Good Luck.

Gang,
I know this question or similar ones to it have been asked, so forgive me
for asking again. If there is any interest, I will be happy to publish the
results.
Too many unpleasant things are happening up here to go into any detail, but
suffice it to say, we have been directed to seriously reduce our budgets.
This is tough because our last budget process produced a very bare bones
budget.
So, the question is: are any of you operating on a 36 hour week (or anything
less than 40), and if so, how do you handle the offices? Do you have
different shifts so that your offices are open 5 days, do you have curtailed
hours for the citizens to transact business, do you completely close on one
day a week, etc. Any input you have would be useful and interesting.
As always, many thanks!
