Thank you to the 16 agencies who responded. Attached is an Excel
spreadsheet summarizing the results.
Of the sixteen agencies 5 make a cash payment and the others typically
provide the uniform. As noted in several of the responses, providing an
initial uniform eliminates any cash reporting on a W2 or 1099. There was
also typically a provision for replacement on an as needed basis.
In the case of the Park District our Reserves are typically volunteers and
do not serve in a paid status. Some of the agencies making cash
payments noted that the Reserves may work school functions for which
they are paid. Therefore they already have a requirement to report
earnings and the uniform allowance is added to it.
