Put it to ya this way, I have twelve mill mdf cut into the shape of the
rear parcel shelf(all the large holes where speakers can go cut out as
well). This was then screwed FIRMLY to it-no rattles what so ever. All my
doors(that house speakers) have been thouroughly sound deadened-no rattles.
The Sony 12 inch of mine hums sweetly. To enhance the bass I removed the
thin board between the fuel tank and the back seat. The board that encloses
the fuel tank from the boot has 10 mm holes drilled in it everywhere-still
is strong and very sound transparent. There is a slight gap between the top
of this board to allow the boot lid tensioners to close properly so plenty
of bass "flows" into the cabin. Put it this way- with the gains on my amp
on 1/2 and the volume knob at 3/4, the sub generates enough bass to rattle
the rear view mirror so you can't see out of it and even rattle my autometer
tacho that is bolted to the a-pillar. Plenty enough for me. My amp is
mounted in the left hand rear quarter panel. My amp rack gives the effect
of having a wall level with the left hand side of the boot opening and the
amp "sunk" into the left quarter panel. Is functional and is totally trick
looking.
6x9's generate bass but there is one that is for sure-bass is like power,
you always want more and there is never enough of it to satisfy!!! If
you've got some subs already USE THEM! You wouldn't drop a SR-20turbo out
of your car and put in an L-16 now would you!!!!!!!
