Subject: SUBS in da boot?
Cameron, Do you have the specs that came with the subs ?
I need FS,QTS, VAS,OHMS, X MAX, SENSITIVITY. Then I can use box design
software to get a box design.
There is not much you can do with a 1600 as the fuel tank is behind the
seat. I would mount the subs in the quarter panels, with a slight angle
towards the front of the car. (So that there is no phase cancellation with
the sound waves). Many older sedans have the subs mounted in the rear boot
section firing into the tank or METAL behind the seat. A few years back you
would just cut out the metal behind the seats, but this causes structural
weaknesses and on your next roadworthy you may be asked to supply an
engineers report or weld up the holes. Last I heard, it was illegal in WA to
cut Large holes in parcel shelfs and behind seats.
When you make a box, use a minimum 18mm MDF, use heaps of screws and liquid
nails when you put it together, Make sure there are no unwanted air leaks.
Put wood glue on your screws when you screw the sub to the box, otherwise
you will leak air past the screws.
www.termpro.com has some good hints for doing your own installs.
