Bruce,

Thanks very much for reminding me of that link.
My next question to the list has now been partially answered.

Extract from Link as follows:

219 closed chamber Head.

The true SSS head from imported used engines or ordered from the Datsun
comp. catalog. Later versions could be ordered from the catalog with a V912
casting. 1.50" intake ports, square exhuast ports. 1.65" intake valves and
1.38" exhuast. These are hard to find. Any of the other closed chamber heads
can be "converted' to this design by simply opening up the intake port to
1.50" (if that's desired) Some of these heads are marked "A87" on the side,
but have "219" cast at the front of the head, just below the timing chain
inspection plate.

It seems a mystery head I have has now been identified.
My head is simular to the one above ie 1.5" inlet ports, 1.65" intake
valves, closed chamber and has 219 cast on the front below the timing chain
inspection plate.

My head differs though in a few areas:

Exhaust valves are smaller and are 1.3" (33mm). There is 3-4 Punch marks
around valve seats. Because of this I assume that the valve seats were
replaced at some stage so maybe they opted for smaller exhaust valves.

There is A87, V91 etc casting on the spark plug side and there is only
original casting in this area. ie casting numbers have not been machined
off.

If you have a look at the picture in the link under the inlet points and
between the manifold and block surfaces there is a "ramp" or casting
strengthing section. This head does not have this and all other L4 heads I
have seen do.

On the rocker cover gasket surface and above number 2 inlet port AV has been
stamped. Above number 4 inlet port X is stamped.

On the back what looks like, NO 1 9-29 is cast just above the block. 45 is
stamped above this to the right.

Anyone have any ideas what this head is?

I am now assuming it is a SSS head???????
