Terry,
I am running 1-3/4 inch SU's, and am aware of the mismatch with the 1.5 inch SSS 
manifold. I am using a dodgy homemade Phenolic spacer/adapter, which seems to work OK.
I'd be interested to find out about others with this type of setup, do you have any US 
links etc...

Have fun using 46mm Zed Su's on a small 4 banger below 2.4 litres as they
are fraught with problems. Many of our friends in the US have tried using
these carbies on L18/L20B's but very few have got good results on the
street. The problem as I read it is that the big bore design gives a bit
more up high than 38mm SU's but you lose so much low to mid range torque as
the 46mm venturis are so much bigger than the SSS manifold runners. You
could try hacking a 6 cylinder manifold to see if that does the trick.

manifold for my L20 and someone told me that I should do the porting and
matching the manifold before fitting the carbs. What exactly does this mean
as I am only a beginner and dont know much about working/modifing engines.
