My two bits worth..
If your intercooler was painted black , it will give off heat faster than a
light coloured ( ie plain Alloy ) one .
This is why the SR-71 was painted black ( Black Bird )

the only reason manufactures are leaving the intercoolers unpainted is
because that is what the aftermarket guys are doing and putting on to the
show cars , ie visible
