Malcolm, In the past for me std L18 bottom end + small chamber head (36cc) + 11psi draw though setup = detonation and blown head gasket every time gas pedal was pressed.
Go for larger chamber head (L20B). I don't know what you got over the ditch but hear the Bluebird series 2 head V91 would be a good choice (about 45cc chamber). If running low boost 5-6psi would be reliable with no intercooler.
