Title: RE: WHY SO QUIET?

I know that you can rebuild L series in your backyard.  And the I heard one of the benefits of the wankel rotary was the ease of rebuild and it could be done by anyone.  Yet I haven't heard of many people who just slap them together in their backyard.

Do they need to be built well to last a long time?  Are they sensitive to poor assembling?

I would have liked to see a 12A factory datsun 1600 in 1970.  With the development the 1600 got for racing and rally that would have been one scary car.

I have heard of many rotors lasting long periods of time. They seem to be
more sensitive to good maintenance, but if you look after them properly i.e.
regular oil changes etc they should prove to be reliable.
