Indeed they are in road work zones, and what's more they only have to tell
you somewhere within 100ks that they police road work signs - you've all
probably seen the signs. Did you know that 85-90% of all speed camera and
radar bookings in NSW are made inside de-restriction signs and something
like between 400 and 1000 metres of the sign. Slowing down at derestriction
signs certainly improves your chances of not being booked by a speed camera
or radar. This doesn't apply all that often in the ACT, they're just revenue
raising sneaky bastards that don't follow any rules what so ever - actually
they do sit just inside derestriction signs but it's usually very marginal
distance wise - more like 300 metres most times but I haven't heard of
anyone challenging a booking in court.

regards
Terry
