Mick,

This was a big problem in early motor cycles but i've removed a lot of hot plugs out of alloy heads on Dattos & Toys etc and never hurt a thread yet. Mind you I always spray some WD40 or eq on the plug before I re-fit it - don't ask my why I do this, just a habit.

regards
Terry

Subject: Plug chops

As an ex m/cycle (2 stroke) race mechanic I've always relied on this tried and proven method of checking mixture in the combustion chamber.
Many years ago I had a bad run with spark plug threads in the Datto A87 head and I was advised NOT to remove spark plugs when the engine is hot as the threads tend to distort and destroy themselves.
Is this true?
I only ever pull the plugs cold now but i would sorely love to do a few HOT 'plug chops' and have a good look.
Also thinking about fitting an 02 gauge
any thoughts?
cheers
Mick
