It's poor value for money because if you add freight, duty, a 
programmable ECU, a suitable clutch, some big flow injectors etc etc 
you'll find that it won't really be that cheap at all, yes, even 
compared to a SR/FJ/CA.

If it were a significantly cheaper and easier path to 250 horsepower, 
then we'd all be doing it.  There are good reasons that the Americans 
use these engines, namely SR/FJ/CA, since they're nigh on impossible to 
find in the USA and hard to fit to a LHD car.

PS If you're really obsessed about cheap horsepower, what about a 
VG30DET?  They're worth $1600 in a package with an auto box, and an easy 
270hp at just 7psi.  Change the engine number to VG20xxx-xxx and voila 
it's a 2 litre.
