What poor handling with a FJ20 engine - it's crap as in urban myth.

If you do stupid things like lowering it by a crazy amount, sure it wont
handle well but that goes for an L engine or any other of them too. If you
follow the guidelines in the Whiteline article, especially in regards to
front/rear ride height variance (i.e. max front lower by 25mm) and get as
much of everything as adjustable as you can afford, wide low profile tyres
etc, your FJ powered 1600 will still out handle the majority of sports cars
on the road and you wont build muscles like Arny in the process.

regards
Terry

Subject: Thought i would start the evening off with a question

OK i have been talking to steve newing tonight - good bloke - any way we
were discussing the poor handling that is inherant with transplanting an
Fj20det in to a datto 1600 - i thought that they werent crazily heavy - yes
i know they are heavy however i am doing this conversion cos of the
achievable cheap power???now i dont wanna start anything cos i want to have
lots to do with SR's and Ca's alsoin the future but the FJ is my cheap
reliable power house for the moment

any way i was wondering whether those of you who had Fj 20dets in ther 1600
what you have done to cater for the poor handling - and even if you have
been successfull in aachieving good handling with these engines in a 1600?

how heavy are these engines??? i mean i dont think i have ever got a figure
that every one has agreed on???

any way any opinions / stories etc would be great - cos i wanna use my car
on the track a little so im not really stressed about it but i would like to
im porve it any way

thanx

Leighton
