Kristian,

Revs aren't everything. I think a standard SR20 has a redline of 7,500 (correct me if i'm wrong guys) But the SR will punch out more power and significantly more torque, not to mention future potential.

I have seen a standard SR in a 1600 out perform a standard 4age 20v in a sprinter, and the sprinter was about 60-80kg lighter. Also, by putting a Toyota engine in the Datsun, you will restrict yourself to which category's of racing you can participate in. You most likely have to compete in Sports Sedan's where the words "small" and "budget" should not be used together.

Don't get me wrong, I think the 4ag family of engines are great, but I suggest you talk with some guys who are racing in the class you want to compete in, and see what they are doing and find out what the rules for that class are.

Just my 2c worth.

Mark

P.S. if your in Sydney, I'll be racing at Eastern Creek on 22/23 June. Happy to chat with anyone who wants to come out.

Thanks all,
Circuit racing on a small budget. I want something that will rev too 7500-8000 that i don`t have to build up. Does the distributor clear the firewell easily and what about the inlet plenum running backwards?

The engine will fit no worries. It is tiny in comparison to an SR or especially an FJ, and substantially lighter no doubt. What do you intend to use the car for?

I've got a few pics of a 4AGZE in a 1600 in a magazine. It loooed like a pretty easy fitment.

Thanks Mark,
A high factory redline, cost factor, class capacities?

I can't say that I have - but why would you do it? The guys that I race with who use very well developed versions of the 4age 20v (in sprinters) are still chasing more horsepower. You simply can't get the same horsepower from the 1.6 as you can from a well developed FJ or SR. Some of the guys (2 that I know of) are preparing to build 1.8L versions. Using the current spec block from the 1.8 corolla and adapting the 20v head to fit. These guys are now talking closer to the power the Nissan engines are pumping out - between 230 - 260bhp at the flywheel.

What's thought behind using 4age?

Mark.

Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Toyota 4AGE 20v motor before being fitted to a 1600.

Kris.

Pls forgive me for asking!!
