If so the main reason they probably didn't want to sell them to you, is that once the droms are removed it is hard to move the shell arounf the wrecking yard.
I also have tried to get a set a couple of times and that is the crappy excuse I have been given

Can you still get those finned drums new? I was at a wrecking yard
in Perth and spotted a pair on a 240Z, but the wrecker was very
reluctant t to sell them to me.He reckoned that they were pretty
hard to come by. I've seen lots of people racing 1600s with them
on, they upgrade the front brakes with bigger and/or vented discs,
and just bolt on the aluminium Z drums on the rear. Easier than
the hassle of going to rear discs -although rear discs are the
ultimate stopping option obviously.
