Yeah, i agree. For small projects or prototypes i use Sinatra (with my own stack of tools, which i created since i started using it) because its so simple and fast. For bigger projects i use Merb + DataMapper. It gives me everything i need, and if i need something else - i can always write it by myself as an extension. I just dont like the way Rails handles app behavior. Or its ActiveRecord syntax. I can deal with it, but it just does not feel comfortable. The same way with PHP, i created a simple and small framework, with almost same API as Merb`s, because i like it very much. PS. Sinatra is actually extracted from Merb at the beginning (as far as i know) >From clients` prospective - they dont care how it works, they just want their business up and running. That`s it. Im not talking about such clients which have their own dev teams under the roof.
But still, im not sure how long will Merb be on the fly. If you ask most of Rails developers about Merb - they`ll say its a dead framework. I can disagree with that. I think it should find its own way, not be in shadows of Rails (which borrowed a lot of good things from Merb). Anyways, i dont really know where it goes.
