Marshall,

Have you kept any data on the reliability (or failure rate) for evaporators in
'87 300TDs?

I'm considering the purchase of a poor example of such a fine car, and it's
been abused to the point that the egine has been replaced at least once
(247,000 miles on the odometer). One of the many problems the car has, and
most worrisome to me, is that the AC doesn't work.

Any idea if evaporator failures were higher or lower based on region (i.e.
North vs. South)? I'm thinking that this car's AC died while it was in the
North, not really hot enough to need it, so it's been INOP for years. I'm
thinking that means a lower probability that the EVAP is bad? Does that make
any sense, or am I trying to rationalize this purchase?

Thanks in advance,
Max
