[MBZ] w124 passenger wheel well configuration

I've a question about the passenger side wheel well configuration on  
the w124 diesel.
On the left side you have an louvered front splash cover, but on the  
right there is no cover, and the rear of the front bumper is exposed.
I'm wondering if there should be a lovered cover there? We're not  
sure if there should be, or was it deleted for diesels because the
air intake is over there and perhaps having it there causes water to  
be ingested?
