No, those are instead of _springs_.

The system uses hydraulic fluid to change the ride height, but hydraulic
fluid doesn't compress so when the hydraulics are doing a lot of the
load carrying there would be little "spring" action. The spheres have a
very high pressure nitrogen that the hydraulics can push against. The
nitrogen then acts as an "air spring" for the hydraulics. When all the
parts are doing their respective jobs, the system works _quite_ well.
