Just read some of these posts for the first time. Don't want to get too
mired in it, 'cause I've learned people can argue indefinitely - it's just
human nature I guess.
But as a Doberman owner and enthusiast and part-time dog trainer, I can add
a few things:
Yes, breed-bans are ridiculous and terrible. Kind of the same thing as gun
control.
I've seen quite a few unstable/aggressive Goldens. I chalk it up to bad
breeding - they are supposed to be lovely.
When is the last time anyone heard of a Doberman involved in a mauling or
even a biting? So definitely a bad rap there.
German Shepherds are likely to bite, right up there with Collies and others,
but these don't tend to get into the realm of mauling.
Unfortunately, the Pit Bull (which is a legitimate breed) and the Rotts,
etc. are what you hear about in maulings. They seem to have the tendency, or
capability at least, to get into frenzy mode - especially if they have
another dog on their team. They get into tearing and holding rather than
just putting a few bites on someone. BUT, I am not condemning these noble
breeds. If from good breeding, they are wonderful, just must be treated a
bit more like a dangerous weapons due to potential.
Lastly, people rely on that mantra "a dog is what you make him" too much.
Yes, it's partly true, but we tend to forget about the characteristics each
dog is born with. Just like us, there are all different kinds even within a
breed.
Diesel content: Where can I get a decent rear seat cover - doesn't have to
be anything special. Need to protect from doggie paws and nails.

Goldens I think have the highest bite rate of any breed. Probably
mainly because they're so common, but you don't hear about them
because they're not labelled an "aggressive" breed.
Just yesterday the new ban on Pit Bulls in Toronto went into effect.
Existing "Pit Bulls" (not even a real breed but a mix) require a
muzzle, leash, and fixing. No buying or breeding from now on. Thing
is, it's wishy washy and owners of other breeds like German Sheppards,
Dobermans, Rottweillers and the like are very nervous now.
It's a bogus law and not based on reality, but the perception created
by the media. Any dog can be made aggressive by upbringing, and any
can be docile the same way. Punish the owners instead.
How long before my 105 lb Chesapeake Bay Retreiver is banned?
