My 1st Porsche, a 1953 1500 normal, the engine case had VW casting with the
VW logo. I rebuilt the engine and changed it to a 1500 super and drove from
Seattle to Guadalajara Mexico, that was in August of 1958. The early Porsche´s
were like the VW and floated so it got exciting a couple of times at river
crossings when we started to float down river until the wheels touched ground
again. The only problem we had was the octane rating of the fuel was very low
so had to clean the plugs a couple of times.
