Yes-my 90 300D 2.5t had the same problem and the same fix.

Peter is bang on. That is the very same condition my SDL had. Turned
out to be a plugged tubing from the manifold to the solenoid. Easy and
cheep fix.

Try a trial run with the tube disconnected.
