This is a old practice, since VW could not produce convertivles at it own plant at the begining all the VW cabriolet produced where made by a carrocerie company named Karmann in Germany (that is why all of them have a small plate with a karmann logo in one side of the vehicle), they also desing with the help of an italian company named Ghia the famous VW Karmann Ghia, that is for sure one of the most emblematics cars made by VW after the Beetle.
