Two things at work here, NO is a rather liberal city, much like Chicago. Ever hear of a yellow dog democrat? That's somebody who resents the republican party so much for giving them Abe Lincoln that they would vote for a yellow dog if it got the democratic nomination. The result is both ends of the spectrum voting for dems.
