The S124 will have more power and get slightly better fuel economy (supposedly, but mine doesn't). Something to keep in mind is that the rear seat in an S124 (and probably an S123 for that matter) doesn't have much legroom, and if rearended in a collision could likely do serious injury to back seat passengers, even with the legendary mercedes crash protection. If you've ever seen a trunk folded on a W124, you can draw conclusions as to how far in the bumper would get punched on an S124. I have hauled passengers in the back of mine, and was watching the rear view mirror a lot more nervously (and neurotically) than usual. The 87 300TD has the same 603 #14 head issue, unless corrected. Other than that, they are fantastic cars. K
