Time to adjust the valves, most likely, they start making noise when there is a loose one. Check the cam lobes and chain stretch at the same time. When the cam wears out, you will get flat spots on the tips of the lobes, and it starts making a "snick" sound as it goes around. If this wear is starting, you need a new camshaft AND followers, do NOT use the old ones (because they are worn out and likely the cause of the cam wear).

A bad chain tensioner can cause some chain slap, too -- check the main guide on the passenger side -- if it's deeply slotted by the chain, replace it.
