These folks have a rod for cast iron. I have successfully used their aluminum rod but have not tried the HTS-528 rod for cast iron yet, although I have some.

Their trick is that the rods melt and flow at a temperature below what the metal will melt, yet bonding and strength occur.

I have a bench in the yard, park bench-style, cast-iron frame and wooden
slats.  Part of the frame is cracked -- can I weld this with a flux-core
MIG?
