Well if you can get an S500 or 500SEL for 5K, then accept the fact *you could* spend $10K to $15K to fix everything that is broken, then I assure you it's a very nice ride. A S600 will add another 10K (easy) to that price. This assumes you hand it to your dealer and not want it back for about 4 weeks.

Of course there is always a lurking W140 diesel (maybe if very lucky with a rebuilt engine).

MPG on mine 500SEL range from 16-18 (usa gallon), 21 was highest with an extended run at 90-100mph north of LA.
