that happens all the time around here in the winter. I remember the old days of frozen locks, especially on 123's. Dont really lock the doors with the cars parked at the house though. Still, if we get an inch of ice deposited on everything, the car is encased in a solid layer of ice and the doors will not open.

I had planned to pick up grandson at about 1100 day before yesterday and
have an "inauguration" luncheon with him and some other men at a local
restaurant. 'Was unable to get into any door in either one of my cars
because of ice - freak/rare (for here) storm deposited 2 - 3 of snow and ice
with temps in teens. Key would not turn in locks, etc., and, yes, I know
how to safely thaw them.  'Called grandson and asked him to come pick me up;
his doors (85 BMW 318i) had the same prob. It was still snowing and very
windy (plenty of chill factor); he and I went back inside to our respective
TV's for the inauguration and waited for mother nature to thaw the door
locks by 1100 yesterday.
BTW, the little spring-loaded doors on the key slots are in place.
