The lines for the blue flying saucer? Better shifts, and less sensitivity
to plugging of an orifice.
Thats a vacuum summer/amplifier; it will take the input from the throttle
position valve (metered vacuum) and the input from the boost pressure of
the turbo, and output (from a separate vacuum source) 0-15 in.hg. of
vacuum to the tranny modulator.
Based on just the throttle position, it will range from 5-15 in.hg. or so
of vacuum, and then the boost can depress it an additional 5 in.hg. (at
full boost)...
The added benefit is that the shifting is much less sensitive to plugging
of orifices (specifically the one in the tee of the big vacuum line that
supplies the transmission vacuum)...
If it were me, I'd transplant the blue flying saucer and the new vacuum
stuff for the transmission (as well as the modified ALDA bolt...) You'll
LIKE the new shifts :)

I just transplanted an 85 trannie into my 83 wagon. No problems whatsoever.
Question: Why are the vacuum hookups so much more complicated vunder the
hood in an 85 vs. an 83 W123 turbodiesel? If not for the transmission, what
are the extra lines for? The engine??

Ok. So if there aren't any 3 liter engines with hydraulic lifters then is
the 2.5 engine as powerful as the older 3.0 liter and is it the same
physical size or smaller? I guess I will need the correct transmission to go
along with it. If so I hope it is as strong as the older one.
I want to install a diesel into an older Jeep Cherokee but also want to
avoid having to adjust valves all the time. So a smaller sized engine is
good.
HMMM if it was in the G class that would mean that it can have the 4wd
option also, Can't it. That would be cool as long as it has the same power
of the 3.0. If not then I guess I will have to do valves just like with my
300D.
