I've been following (reading, not doing :) electric conversions since well
before acquiring my Benz. They are way more advanced (and plug-and-play) than
I was expecting when I started:
evdl.org
evalbum.com for some eye candy

Two of the big complaints on the list are chassis strength for the weight of
lead-acid batteries (still the best KWh/$), and storage volume, since many
conversions are Bug-sized. As I see it any of the W115/W123 bodies have both
these problems licked, even flooded lead-acid deep-cycle batteries should slide
right in without a horrible performance impact outside Connecticut.
Unfortunately my driveway already has three too many inoperable vehicles so for
now it's a project waiting for time, space, a donor Benz, and parts
acquisition; or to put it another way, a thought experiment...

If anyone does have an eBenz I'd love to see pictures and get the specs, BTW,
but if you read this far you already know that. :)

We probably have enough experience and intelligence (and I do not count
>myself in either group) on this list to actually pull something like that off.
