I feed the thinner hose down the dip tube and have been very happy
with the amount I get out. Have not bothered to undo the bolt in the
pan to see if more goes out. Did rip the back end of the pan off once
and replaced it. Tube does go near to bottom. I get enough out that
I am putting nearly what the manual calls for in an empty block.
6.5qt with a filter change.

I've not
had the pan off any of the ones I owned but we did pull the lower
pan off a
friends when we discovered the keeper was missing off his timing chain
master link. The dip stick tube was nowhere near the bottom of the
pan.

Sure wish I had known about them back when I had those cars!
I guess if I do end up with this Mercedes, it's back to 'oil down to
