Yes, I understand that. They're referring to an "early" H model. Cockpit equipment/controls shown in those designated "early" actually went into use 'bout '77 in the H's, which were built in '61 - '62. Having many hours in H's with the "early/original/'61-62" layout AND the equipment that went into use in 'bout '77 (EVS/FLIR, etc.), I can easily recognize the difference. I'd call an "early" H cockpit one with their original setup from '61-62' through 'bout '66/'67, when terrain avoidance systems were added. The next significant change was in 'bout '77 with addition of EVS/FLIR, low light level TV, forward-looking infrared and some other much more sophisticated equipment. Other very significant changes to H equipment occurred in 'bout late '80's, when all new bombing/navigation systems were installed. A program is underway now, to replace even that late '80's equipment.
