Because they have moved most of the frequencies to UHF - the elements are now 8' long.
I also made that antenna yesterday, worked MUCH better inside than the single whip that came with the USB tuner for the laptop. Today I mounted it 32 ft. up on one of the HP loop supports, and got three more channels, all solid reception. I made mine out of aluminum clothsline wire that was left over from quad antenna that I dis-assembled years ago. My wife has stopped asking why I keep all the junk around - it keeps getting re-cycled.
