I had to scrape the cursed stuff off the back window of a wagon. I agree with Randy. the places that install the junk know how to get it off. You really don't want to try to scrape it off with a razor scraper. I worked on mine a little at a time over a couple of months. Probably spent 6 hours or so.

I also agree about going to a different insp. place if you can. I know in HI, you had to go back to the same shop once you started the process. That was costly, because they knew you'd have to spend money if they wanted to not pass you; justified or not.

I would suggest taking the car to one of the places that installs tinting. I assume they have some means of removal that would be much easier than you doing it yourself. We had one of the windows on the now gone Toyota Avalon redone at the tinting place as it got damaged. They stripped and replaced it in a very short time so they must know how to do it better than us. Maybe you can get a lesser tint applied that will pass the test. I think my younger son had the tinting replaced on one of the truck windows too as it was starting to peel off.

Subject: [MBZ] Removing window tint

Well, this morning DC motor vehicle inspection got me big time. :(

I was told to REMOVE all the window tinting on my 85 300TD wagon to comply
with their rules & regulations. Major bummer. Has anyone BTDT and can
recommend a plan of action for me? There are a grand total of 7 glass panes
that I must scrape and treat, including the rear hatch glass. The latter is
my biggest concern - I don't want to break any of the sensor wires.

Thanks in advance,

Andrew
