Its gotta be sustained temps over 80 for the algae to grow. Even if the
cooler weather cause water condensate in the tank, it wouldn't grow,
unless cooler means sustained temps over 80.

Interesting too, it got cool the last coupla weeks, I am wondering if
that made a lot of condensate that both Max and I (living in the same
general area) had develop in the tank, making it a happy home for algae.
I was thinking that gritty part might be rust, and thinking what it
would do to injection pumps and injectors and cylinder walls....

sitting. I'd try carrying a spare prefilter and main filter, and
give it a shot of Biocide at the shock treatment level. you may have
a load of tank rust that some station was kind enough to charge you
for putting it in your tank.
One caution about that. Never buy fuel when a tank truck is
unloading, or you can tell has just unloaded. It stirs up all the
crud in the storage tank.

yesterday I changed the in-line filter, took it out and was running
fine. The filter had a lot of gritty sh*t in it, mixed in with some
slimy black sh*t (BTW that word is a technical term). See attached
pic. So then last night we head out to dinner up the other side of
town and it was running fine, we get into town it starts not wanting
to go 40. Then we get to the bridge (where Max had his troubles)
and going up we slow down to like 30 then get over and make it to
the restaurant. Head home later, running fine, we get about halfway
home and it starts again not wanting to go over 40 then 30 then 20
then we limped into the driveway going about 15. I am guessing it
is OK until it pulls enough nasty fuel into the tank filter to clog
it up, then after sitting awhile it sloughs off?
I guess I need to pull the tank filter and see what kind of nasty
sh*t is in there. I am lazy so I will ask y'all how to get into the
tank on a 126 and pull and clean the filter.
