I recently ordered a Dell netbook with a six-cell battery and Ubuntu, which is scheduled to be delivered to me tomorrow. I'll get a standalone USB DVD player/burner that I can use with either it or my Macs. It ran $354 plus tax and shipping; the only options I got were the six-cell battery and Bluetooth.
The two people I know who own netbooks say they are very slow, but they're both running Windows on theirs. Seems to me that with a 1.6 GHz processor and a gig of RAM it should be snappy enough to do basic tasks, and I'm hoping that it will have enough poot to handle minor photo editing, too. (The built-in Mini SD slot makes it a natural companion for my cameras, which all write to Mini SDs.) One of the build options substitutes a 16GB solid-state drive for the 160GB hard drive, so I'm assuming a Mini SD could serve as a boot drive if need be. I'll report back after I've spent a little time with it. --mf On Fri, Jan 1, 2010 at 12:48 AM, Redghost <[email protected]> wrote: > Depends on the netbook. > > They all seems to sport much the same spec. 1gig ram, 160gig drive, 10.1" > screen.
