Oddly enough, I've determined my alternator needs replacing on the 300D. The
bearing is going out enough that the car barely starts and, unless you keep
your foot in it at idle, it dies and stops fast and hard. I didn't think
that an alternator had enough umph to stop a diesel engine cold.
